Tri-Ace itself is developing this sequel to their PlayStation RPG Star Ocean: The Second Story. The Game Boy edition features 16 characters-including many. For the Star Ocean series, the oddest duck is Star Ocean: Blue Sphere. This is a game that deserves a good remake, and even received one — for cell phones.
Enix's last great role-playing game for the SNES was the wonderfully designed, graphically luscious, and incredibly involving. You probably have never played it, because it never came to the states, but the PlayStation sequel (released by Sony) went on to phenomenal success and praise. Now a sequel is being readied for the Game Boy, and while the game hasn't been announced for the US yet, it should be another awesome edition of the series.Features:. The sequel to the PlayStation and Japanese blockbuster SNES series. Continues the story of the original series. Possible multiplayer battle mode. Available for Game Boy and Game Boy Color. The story of the Game Boy version is entirely new, and begins two years after Star Ocean: Second Story.
Cloud (Claude) Kenny and Rena Lanford return in this quest, along with 12 other familiar faces from the series. Many will remember Chiasato, Dias, and Leon from Second Story, and hopefully these characters will join your party this time. Has kept the battle system from the PlayStation game, enabling 'half realtime' battles with parties of up to three members.According to game's director at TriAce, the Game Boy version of Star Ocean begins on Earth, but ultimately takes the characters to a 'Blue Sphere,' somewhere in space. The game is being built on a 4 megabyte cartridge, with almost a third of the game devoted to dungeons. The graphics are said to be based on the design of the beautiful SNES game, and dungeons have a slanted-overhead view like that version. In the game, you will be able to change between any of your party's three characters at any time. Each character progresses in their own abilities with the party, and at times one of those certain skills will be needed to get future in the game (characters will now learn skills that other characters can't). The game's leads will be able to learn even more skills than were available in the PlayStation game - very impressive!
This is all balanced with a skill point system, where players will need to decide which skill to develop and how many points to assign to it after battles.Another amazing addition planned for this game is a multiplayer battle mode. Ingredients for spells and weapons will be scattered on the playfield, and players fight to collect items fastest and use these tools to their best. This feature may not make the game due to space concerns, but with puzzles similar to the company's other big offering, the PlayStation game Valkyrie Profile, the game will play amazing even without the feature. We'll see more of when it makes its debut at this year's TGS this month.
After strong sales of the PlayStation game, it is hoped that this Game Boy sequel will make it to the states. With beloved characters (who were bristling with personality in the PlayStation game) returning, wonderful graphics (especially for a Game Boy Pocket compatible game), and great gameplay to battle through, this game is highly anticipated and dearly desired by fans.-Marc Nix.
